Search for a marketing course for personal trainers and you get three different things mixed together: short continuing-education courses that earn CEUs, courses about one social media platform, and full marketing courses that take a gym or training business from positioning to retention. They solve different problems and cost very different amounts. This guide separates them, compares the options whose details are published on the provider’s own page, and says which suits whom, including our own course and its limits.
First question: do you need CEUs or clients?
If you hold a certification from a body such as NASM, ACE or ISSA, you need continuing-education credit to recertify, and only courses approved by your certifier count. A marketing course that does not carry those credits can still be the right purchase, but it will not help with recertification. If what you need is more clients or members, judge a course by whether it gives you a plan you can run, not by its credit hours.
The options compared
| Course | Price | Format | Credits | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fitness Mentors: Build Your Marketing Muscle | Free | Self-paced video, 9 lessons | 0.5 CEUs after the exam | Certified trainers who want a free introduction and a few CEUs |
| Fitness Education Online: Instagram for Fitpro’s, Facebook for Fitpro’s | $137 each; Social Media Essentials bundle $197 | 100% online, self-paced | Not stated on the page | Trainers who want depth on one social platform |
| The Business Movement: Gym Owner and Personal Trainer Starter Kits | Not published on the page | Home-study course kits | Not stated | New gym owners and trainers who want business and branding basics |
| Easy Marketing School: Gym, Fitness and Personal Trainer Marketing Course | $90 one-time | Self-paced, 36 lessons, lifetime access | Certificate of completion only, no CEUs | Owners and trainers who want a full marketing plan with a focus on keeping members |
Prices and details were checked on each provider’s own page on 24 September 2026 and can change. Courses sold on marketplaces such as Udemy are not included because their prices change with frequent sales.
What each type of course is good at
Free CEU courses
A free course with a short exam is the cheapest way to earn a fraction of your continuing-education hours and to learn the vocabulary of marketing. At nine lessons it is an introduction, not a plan for a business.
Platform-specific courses
If most of your clients come from Instagram or Facebook, a course about that platform goes deeper on content, ads and groups than a general course can. The trade-off is scope: it will not tell you who your best clients are or how to keep them.
Full marketing courses
A full course covers the decisions that come before any platform: which clients you want more of, why they should train with you, and what keeps them after the first month. Our course is organized around the member lifecycle, with lessons on segmentation, positioning, community building, user-generated content, influencer collaboration, online sales and retention, each opening with a short story from a fitness business. Its limits are real: it is not a fitness qualification, it carries no CEUs, and it is self-paced with no live coaching.
How to choose
- You need recertification hours: choose a course approved by your certifier; the free Fitness Mentors course is an easy start.
- You already know your audience and live on one platform: a platform-specific course.
- You own a gym or studio, or you are building a training business and want one plan from positioning to retention: a full marketing course such as ours.
