Brand Strategy Courses Compared (2026): Business Schools, Design Platforms and Short Courses

“Brand strategy course” is a search that sends you to four different kinds of school. Business schools teach brand management to marketing managers. Design platforms teach identity and positioning to creatives. Subscription libraries offer short courses for anyone at work. Small schools teach owners how to give their business a clear name, message and story. The courses look alike in search results but cost anything from nothing to $9,450. This guide compares seven real options and our own, as of October 2026, on format, study time, price and certificate. It says plainly who each one is for.

Who is searching, and what each of them needs

  • Small-business owners. You want customers to remember you and choose you over a cheaper competitor. You need a clear position, a name and message that fit, simple brand guidelines, and a story you can tell consistently. Theory matters less than getting it done.
  • Brand and marketing managers. You manage a brand inside a company. You need frameworks for positioning, brand architecture and measurement, plus a credential that helps your career.
  • Designers and creatives. You want to offer brand strategy to clients alongside design work, so you need a workshop method, templates and examples.
  • Career changers and students. You want an affordable introduction with a certificate.

Details and prices come from each provider’s public course page as of October 2026, viewed from Europe, and they change often. Chart comparing study time and price for brand strategy courses from LinkedIn Learning, Domestika, Alison, Coursera, eCornell and Easy Marketing School
Online options range from under an hour to about 65 hours. Kellogg’s in-person week and The Futur’s video library state no hours, so they are listed below the chart.

Each option: what it is good for, and what it is not

Kellogg: Building Strong Brands

The page calls this a popular programme and describes “a systematic approach to brand management” and “a value-based brand-building framework”, taught through lectures and case discussions. The academic directors are Timothy Calkins and Alexander Chernev. It uses blended learning: video lectures and book chapters before you arrive, then the session at Kellogg’s Miami campus from March 1 to 5, 2027. The fee is $9,450, and the page notes it does not include accommodation. It is the right choice for a senior marketer whose company pays and who will benefit from the classroom and the peers. For a small business it is not a realistic option.

Kellogg’s Building Strong Brands: one in-person week in Miami, $9,450 before travel and accommodation.

eCornell: Brand Management certificate

Six courses (Brand Purpose, Brand Strategy, Brand Positioning, Brand Planning, Brand Activation and Brand Measurement) over about three months at 3–5 hours a week. The page addresses “a brand marketer, business leader, or entrepreneur”. It promises that you will “create a brand positioning strategy for your market” and work on how to allocate resources to keep the brand performing. You earn a certificate from Cornell’s SC Johnson College of Business with 60 Professional Development Hours (6 CEUs). Two years of access to eCornell’s live Marketing Symposium sessions are included. At $3,900 list price it suits a professional building a brand-management career, or a founder who wants depth and has the budget.

London Business School: Brand Management (Coursera)

Professor Nader Tavassoli contrasts traditional branding (a visual identity and a promise) with brands as “a customer experience delivered by the entire organisation”. The course includes a “brand workout” for your own brand and guest videos from branding professionals. Its five modules run from Brand Purpose & Experience to Brand Metrics & Returns, over about two weeks at 10 hours a week, at beginner level. The page did not show a price, only an enrol button and Coursera’s subscription offer. It is an excellent way to change how you think about a brand. It is less about the practical steps a small business takes on its name, guidelines and message.

LinkedIn Learning and Domestika: the short options

Lindsay Pedersen’s “Create a Brand Strategy” on LinkedIn Learning runs 54 minutes. It covers framing the strategy with customer and market research, positioning with a “benefit ladder”, brand character and tone, and activation. It is clear and compact. It was released in November 2017, so the examples are not recent. Access comes with a LinkedIn Learning subscription, and the page offers a one-month free trial.

Domestika’s “Contemporary Brand Identity” is taught by Michael Johnson, founder of the branding consultancy Johnson Banks. It is 14 lessons (2 hours 11 minutes) on turning a verbal brand and a brand manifesto into a visual concept and design toolkit. The regular price was shown as 32,99€. A much lower figure on the page is a trial offer for Domestika’s Plus subscription, not the course price. It suits designers and anyone who thinks visually. It assumes you will design the identity yourself or brief someone who will.

Two short options: LinkedIn Learning (54 minutes, subscription with a free trial) and Domestika (14 lessons, 32,99€ regular price as shown from Europe).

The Futur: Brand Strategy Fundamentals

Anneli Hansson’s course gives you a five-step framework, from mission, vision, goals and brand personality to audience research, gap analysis, positioning and a roadmap. It comes with 90+ videos, a 100-page workbook, and workshop and roadmap templates. The page says it was “Updated & Appended in 2024” and includes lifetime access, for $199. It is openly written for creatives who want to become “your clients’ go-to for developing their brand strategy” and to sell and run workshops. That is a strength if you are an agency or freelancer. If you are an owner branding your own business, much of it is about serving clients.

The Futur: $199 for 90+ videos and a workbook, written for creatives who run brand-strategy workshops for clients.

Alison: Building a Brand Strategy

This course is free to study and takes 4–5 hours on average. It covers the difference between branding and marketing, vision and mission, archetypes, naming, visual identity, and “hybrid branding solutions for small and medium-sized businesses”. The page labels it advanced level, although the content reads as an introduction. The CPD-accredited certificate is optional (“Certify Now”). How to choose: a quick checklist

  1. Whose brand is it? Your own business points to a practical course. A company brand you manage points to a business-school course. Clients’ brands point to a design-platform course with workshop tools.
  2. Strategy, identity or both? Strategy is positioning, message and story. Identity is name, logo and visual system. Check which one the syllabus actually teaches.
  3. Do you need a credential? Only the university programmes carry weight with employers. Short courses give a certificate of completion at most.
  4. How current is it? Look at the release or update date. Brand visibility and social platforms change quickly, while positioning principles change slowly.
  5. Is it in the format you will finish? An in-person week, a three-month cohort and a 90-minute video course suit very different lives.
  6. What is the full cost? Include travel for in-person programmes, renewal for subscriptions, and currency and VAT for international platforms.

What a brand strategy course should cover, whoever teaches it

  • Positioning. Who the brand is for, what it promises, and why it is different from the alternatives.
  • Brand message and voice. One sentence that explains the business, and the tone you use everywhere.
  • Naming. What makes a name work, and what to check before you commit.
  • Brand guidelines. How the identity stays consistent when other people use it.
  • Story and advocacy. How customers come to retell your story for you.
  • Rebranding. When to change, and how to do it without losing loyal customers.

Our guides on why a small business needs a clear brand identity and how to create a brand story that makes customers feel something show these ideas applied to real shops.

Where our course fits, and its limits

The brand strategy course at Easy Marketing School has 15 self-paced video lessons, about 1.5 hours in total, written for small businesses. It covers:

  • creating a brand in six steps, and branding advice for small businesses
  • naming a company
  • brand guidelines, with examples
  • brand message
  • brand storytelling, with examples
  • brand advocacy and loyalty
  • brand visibility
  • rebranding, with a full guide and examples
  • co-branding

Three lessons are free to watch without signing up: creating a brand in six steps, brand visibility, and the full rebranding guide. It is taught by Kamran Taghiyev, the school’s founder. It costs a one-time $28 with lifetime access and a certificate of completion.

Our course page: $28 one-time, 15 lessons (1.5 hours), certificate of completion, and three lessons free to watch.

Here is what it is not:

  • It is not a design course. It will help you brief a designer, but it does not teach logo or visual-identity design the way Domestika’s course does.
  • It is video lessons only: no quizzes, workbook, graded project or feedback.
  • Some lessons were recorded with 2024 examples, such as the brand visibility lesson.
  • It is not accredited and carries no CPD credits or CEUs.
  • It is taught in English only.

If you manage a large brand or need the credential, the eCornell or London Business School courses are stronger choices. If you need to name, position and explain your own business clearly, watch the three free lessons first and decide from there.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between brand strategy and branding?

Brand strategy is the thinking: who you serve, what you stand for, how you are different, and what you say. Branding usually means the expression of that strategy in a name, logo, colours, tone and experiences. Courses differ on which one they emphasise.

Is there a free brand strategy course?

Yes. Alison’s “Building a Brand Strategy” is free to study, and several platforms offer free trials. Certificates usually involve a payment. Our own course is paid ($28), with three lessons free to watch.

How long does it take to learn brand strategy?

The basics take an hour or two. University certificates take about three months part-time, and executive programmes compress a week of intensive work. Applying it to your own business takes as long as it takes to make the decisions.

Do I need a brand strategy course to rebrand my business?

No, but a structured method helps you avoid rebranding by taste alone. Clarify your position and message before you change the name or logo, and plan how you will tell existing customers.
